Morden Branch
October 20th, 1965 was the official grand opening of the Morden-Winkler Regional Library branches.
Morden’s branch was originally located in the building that previously housed the Morden Chamber of Commerce. Within four days of the library opening, Morden had 214 members signed up. The library collection was started with a grant of $10,000 and loans were limited to 2 books per person because of the small collection size. |
In the fall of 1971 Morden Library was moved into the old post office building (currently the Pembina Hills Art Gallery aka “the clock tower”). In 1982 the Chamber of Commerce relocated, allowing an expansion that increase the size of the library to 1800 square feet. In the 1980s, insufficient space became an issue again but upgrading and expanding the current site was deemed too costly.
In 1994 a Friends of the Library committee was formed, eventually leading to the library moving to our current site in 1996.
he library had a footprint of approximately 4300 square feet.

In 2002 space became an issue again and the library expanded into the space that was still being used for retail, making it 7,300 square feet. This is the space we currently occupy.
The building has remained very much the same over the years, with the exception of some new carpet in the meeting room, offices and a new desk that was installed in the winter of 2024.
