Manitou Branch
The library expanded to double its size in 1998 when the Town of Manitou Administrative Office moved out of the other half of the building, and over the years it has been renovated and refurbished several times, the last time being just two years ago.
The Manitou Library joined South Central Regional Library to become its fifth branch in 2018, and over the years, has expanded its services and increased hours to make it more accessible for the community. |
The Manitou Library first opened on October 2, 1990. Interestingly, the first librarian was its current Admin, Angela Lovell. Bev Boote took over as Head Librarian in March 1991, staying in that role until her retirement in 2017.
The library at that time was open just 12 hours a week, had 3100 books and occupied only half of the building. In 1997, the library got its first computerized ILS (Inter Library System) and said goodbye to its manual card system. |
In 2014 a Reading Garden was established behind the library that is enjoyed by the community and where the library holds children’s programs during the summer.
Manitou branch has always had a strong focus on providing programming for children and adults throughout the year and is a welcoming community space for everyone. |
